CITIES INTRODUCTION - Shenzhen

Many technological enterprises choose to settle in Shenzhen, China's Silicon Valley, making it one of the nation's high-tech R&D and manufacturing bases. The city is a pioneer in deepening comprehensive reform, opening-up, and high-quality development. It is also one of the world's most economically dynamic cities.

Shenzhen is a vital boundary-crossing that links the Mainland and Hong Kong and a crucial high-tech R&D and manufacturing base in southern China. Joining the efforts of the Hong Kong authority, Shenzhen has been actively pushing forward the establishment of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone to transform itself into a modern international city that is influential in innovation and creativity.

There are various national development zones in Shenzhen. They are Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Shenzhen Bonded Zone, Yantian Port Bonded Logistics Park, Shenzhen Export Processing Zone, and Shenzhen Qianhaiwan Free Trade Port Area. Among them, Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone launched policies and measures that benefit Hong Kong people. Such privileges include equal treatment of home purchase in Qianhai District and children education benefits that is the same for Shenzhen citizens.

Young people from Hong Kong and Macao find ample entrepreneurship opportunities in Shenzhen. Among the many youth innovation and entrepreneurship bases here, Shenzhen Virtual University Park and Zetta Bridge Qianhai Hong Kong-Shenzhen Design Innovation Hub were established in 1999 and 2019, respectively, and Mission Hills Makerinaugurated in 2016. The Luohu Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base and Futian Gangxia Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base are the two additional innovation platforms in the city. These facilities witness the Chinese government's commitment to youth entrepreneurship over the past 20 years.
